Chargers make series of roster moves, promote TE Stephen Anderson

The Chargers announced today that they have promoted tight end Stephen Anderson to the active roster and placed TE Sean Culkin on injured reserve.

Along with that, Los Angeles signed defensive back Quenton Meeks, tight end Matt Sokol and defensive end Jeff Holland to the practice squad. In a corresponding move, L.A. released safety Adarius Pickett and guard Chris Brown.

The decision to promote Anderson from the practice squad was a no-brainer.

Culkin suffered a torn Achilles in the Chargers’ 30-10 victory over the Dolphins on Sunday. Tight end Hunter Henry (knee) has a couple more weeks until his return and Virgil Green is dealing with a groin injury, leaving Lance Kendricks as the only active tight end on the roster.

Below is the official team statement on the transactions Tuesday:

The Los Angeles Chargers promoted TE Stephen Anderson to the active roster and placed TE Sean Culkin on injured reserve, the organization announced on Tuesday. The Bolts also added DB Quenton Meeks, TE Matt Sokol and DE Jeff Holland to the practice squad.

Anderson joined the Chargers from the New England Patriots practice squad. The 6-3 tight end has played in 28 career games and made five starts for the Houston Texans, catching 36 passes for 435 yards and two scores. He played in 15 games and caught 25 passes for 342 yards and a touchdown with Houston in 2017.
