Chargers’ Keenan Allen positioning himself as best wideout in 2019

Through three games, Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen has been playing out of his mind.

Allen has been the most productive wideout this season statistically, and other players at his position have not come close to what he’s done.

Allen has a league-leading 29 catches, a league-leading 404 receiving yards, a league-leading 20 receiving first downs and a league-leading eight catches of 20 yards or more.

Chiefs’ Sammy Watkins is second with 311 receiving yards. Saints’ Michael Thomas is right behind Allen with 29 receptions.

With the numbers he’s posted, Allen is on pace for 224 targets, 2,155 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns.

Accomplishing these numbers would be a phenomenal feat for the former California product, and it wouldn’t be all that surprising if he gets close to them with how he plays the game on a weekly basis.

No one runs routes better than Allen. The way he gets open with his silky footwork is a work of art, and it’s rare that you see him drop balls, even the most contested passes.

His volume has skyrocketed due to the absence of tight end Hunter Henry, but even when Henry was on the field Week 1, Allen’s 10 targets simply signifies that it’s difficult for cornerbacks to cover him.

It’s early, but if Allen keeps performing like this, then there’s no doubt that he will nab his first All-Pro honors and finally earn the respect he deserves after years.
