Chargers’ Keenan Allen not in favor of Carli Lloyd as NFL player

U.S. women’s national soccer team member Carli Lloyd became an internet sensation after a video was posted of her kicking a football 55 yards through the upright at a Philadelphia Eagles practice.

The video immediately went viral, raising the question of whether Lloyd could kick in the NFL. While many liked the idea of her becoming the first female kicker in league history, Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen seemed to be opposed to it.

Allen saw the video and tweeted: “Sound sweet til somebody block the kick and all of a sudden she on defense. Would be like the stampede scene in the Lion King movie. She do got a boot tho!”

Lloyd, who has reportedly received offers from teams already, said that she’s “seriously considering” them.

Allen did make a valid point about how well Lloyd would fare if a blocked field goal were to occur; she is 5 feet 8 and would be about 100 pounds lighter than some of the other players on the field. And then there are kickoff duties, which could be a lot more dangerous.

In that case, she could become the last line of defense to save a touchdown. That alone could seriously put herself in a situation where she would be risking her soccer career if an injury were to occur.

The idea of having her kick in the NFL sounds great, but putting her out on the football field would certainly have soccer fans alike on the edge of their seats in hopes that they don’t witness a key player on the national team get hurt.
