Chargers injury updates going into preseason opener vs. Cardinals

Chargers defensive tackle Jerry Tillery and safety Nasir Adderley will not play in Los Angeles’ preseason opener at Arizona, coach Anthony Lynn confirmed on Tuesday, per The Athletic’s Daniel Popper.

Tillery, the team’s first-round selection, missed all of minicamp and organized team activities. He had surgery in March to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. Tillery returned joined team drills on Sunday, but it appears the coaching staff wants to give him more time to rest before receiving live game reps.

Adderley, the second-round pick, missed all of mandatory minicamp due to a hamstring issue. He participated for a couple practices, but it appears that he re-aggravated it during one of the sessions. Lynn said that it was some “soreness”. The former Delaware product’s absence means that Rayshawn Jenkins, Desmond King and Jaylen Watkins will get more playing time this week.

Lynn also gave an update on wide receivers Travis Benjamin and Andre Patton, saying that they will both be game-time decisions. If they were to miss Thursday’s preseason opener, we can expect to see extended playing time from Jason Moore, Justice Liggins, Malachi Dupre and Jordan Smallwood.
