Chargers have private visit with Houston DT Ed Oliver

The Chargers certainly need help on the interior part of the defensive line and are trying to get familiar with all of their options in the 2019 NFL draft. Los Angeles recently held a private visit with former Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver on Wednesday.

Houston had their Pro Day today, where Oliver stole the show with an impressive 4.73 40 and 4.19 short shuttle at 281 pounds. He came in six pounds lighter than what he came in at the NFL Scouting Combine (287).

Touted as a top-15 selection, adding Oliver to the defensive line would be a dream come true. His fit as a 3-technique in a 4-3 scheme is where he best projects at the next level. Oliver does lack ideal size, but he’s an exceptional athlete who consistently wreaks havoc with quickness and power.

It’s unlikely that a player who has so much talent and potential falls all the way to where Los Angeles is selecting at No. 28 overall. But the craziest scenarios always happen on draft day. If the Chargers felt like he was their guy, it might be worth trading up for to land the prolific defensive tackle.
