Chargers GM says his team would've drafted Tua Tagovailoa if Dolphins took Justin Herbert

Los Angeles Chargers general manager Tom Telesco revealed that his team would have drafted Tua Tagovailoa if the Miami Dolphins had passed on the former Alabama quarterback in last week's NFL draft.

Telesco said Tuesday on "The Pat McAfee Show" that the Chargers would have selected Tagovailoa with the No. 6 pick if the Dolphins took Justin Herbert at No. 5.

"Yeah, we felt great about both guys," Telesco said. "Well, actually, we felt great about all three quarterbacks that went in the top six. All three are going to be really good players in this league, and it's a comforting factor to know. We hope we don't pick sixth very often. If we do, I won't be making very many picks here. So with a pick this high, if there's a potential down-the-road franchise quarterback there that you like _ you have to take him."

Telesco also said that he never believed the Dolphins were planning on taking an offensive tackle with their top pick.

"Every rumor I heard, I went through my head of how would we handle this if this happened," he said. "Now, the whole, Miami taking a tackle at No. 3, maybe they really were, I just didn't believe that one."
