Chargers DT Darius Philon is an underrated candidate to get a big deal in free agency

Chargers general manager Tom Telesco has made a name for himself by plucking free agents for below market deals and seeing players flourish. This might be the year other general managers around the league steal a page out of the “coupon gods” book.

Darius Philon has been a productive player for the Chargers the last couple of years. He’s done a fine job of not only stepping in and seizing control of Corey Liuget’s job, but he’s made some timely plays that were much needed for the defense. Evan Silva of Rotoworld believes Philon will get a healthy contract this offseason:

“Huge” might be a stretch, but at his age, he will likely command more than what Chargers fans believe he is worth. Philon finished the season with 14.5 pressures. For a rotational player, that’s solid. That might be the best way to describe Philon. Solid. He will help a team again in 2019. Will that be the Chargers? Would you be willing to pay more for Philon, or should the Chargers double down on defensive tackles in the draft?
