Chargers’ Derwin James out of walking boot

The Chargers received great news yesterday when they found out that offensive tackle Russell Okung was given clearance to return to the playing field. A day later, there was some more.

Safety Derwin James is no longer in his walking boot that he’s been wearing for over the past month. James walked off the practice field with his teammates today.

The former Florida State product had a scooter that he used to get around, but a couple weeks ago, he wasn’t on it.

James had surgery to address a stress fracture in his foot prior to the regular season. He was placed on the injured reserve and it was expected that he would miss three months.

With James on the IR, he won’t be able to come back until after Week 8, when the Bolts can designate up to two players to return to the active roster.

James’ first potential appearance could come in L.A.’s Week 9 matchup against the Packers on Nov. 3, but it’s uncertain if he will be ready by then. Likely, mid-to-late November would be more reasonable for his return.

The Chargers, who have been struggling on the defensive side of the ball, particularly at stopping the run, could really use the help of James to give them an extra boost.
