Chargers’ Derek Watt deserves Pro Bowl recognition

Players like defensive end Joey Bosa and cornerback Casey Hayward have been performing at a Pro Bowl level this season, but there’s one player who’s worthy of being mentioned, too.

Even though it may come as a surprise to some, fullback Derek Watt deserves Pro Bowl recognition for his play the past two weeks.

Not at his natural position, but he’s been a standout special teamer, especially this past Sunday against one of the best return groups in the league between kick returner Cordarrelle Paterson and punt returner Tarik Cohen.

Watt was a key contributor to limiting Patterson to an average of 27.3 yards per return and Cohen to an average of 10 yards.

Here, Watt was flying down the field, evaded a block and stymied Cohen for minimal gain.

Last week against the Titans, Watt made sure that kick returner Darius Jennings felt his presence with this booming hit.

Watt has six tackles and his contribution has helped the Chargers’ special teams unit in a big way the past few weeks.

So remember, when Pro Bowl voting starts in a few weeks, make sure that Watt has your vote.
