Chargers' defense brings the stifle on Raiders' offense in 26-10 win

CARSON, Calif. _ Oakland's fans brought the noise Sunday, but the Los Angeles Chargers' defense brought the stifle.

In winning 26-10 at StubHub Center, the Chargers limited the Raiders to 289 yards and Marshawn Lynch to 31 on the ground in nine carries.

Just a week ago, Oakland amassed 565 total yards while scoring 45 points against Cleveland.

Chargers defensive end Melvin Ingram finished with a sack and an interception and shared the team lead with seven tackles with linebacker Denzel Perryman.

Darius Philon and Isaac Rochell also had sacks and Jatavis Brown had a forced fumble.

Offensively, Philip Rivers threw for 339 yards and two touchdowns. Keenan Allen had eight catches for 90 yards and Melvin Gordon rushed 19 times for 58 yards and a score.

The score was tied 3-3 approaching halftime until the Chargers scored two touchdowns in less than five minutes late in the second quarter.

The first came on a play that began with potential calamity and ended with Austin Ekeler in the end zone.

Standing in shotgun formation, Rivers mishandled the snap from Mike Pouncey before securing the ball.

Sensing that the play was about to fall apart, Rivers quickly and desperately tossed a short pass to Ekeler.

The second-year running back made one move to get around two Raiders _ linebacker Tahir Whitehead and cornerback Daryl Worley _ and then dashed down the sidelines for a 44-yard score.

Allen threw a block near the goal line to take Oakland safety Marcus Gilchrist out of the play and escort Ekeler into the end zone.

The Chargers defense got the ball right back on the next play from scrimmage when Brown caused a Martavis Bryant fumble that Jahleel Addae recovered near midfield.

The ensuing six-play, 48-yard drive ended with Gordon scoring from one yard out to give the Chargers a 17-3 edge at halftime.
