Chargers’ Dan Feeney named to PFF’s Team of the Week

The Chargers failed to come away with a victory against the Lions this past Sunday, but there were still some positives from the game.

Among them was guard Dan Feeney.

Feeney was named to Pro Football Focus’ Team of the Week for his performance in Week 2 against Detroit.

Here’s what PFF had to say about the former Indiana product:

In his third season out of Indiana, Feeney produced the best game of his career so far. In pass protection, he allowed just one hurry and no sacks or hits from 41 pass-blocking snaps. Meanwhile, he produced an 88.2 run-blocking grade, making a big impact for the Chargers’ ground game.

Not only did Feeney get stamped to the team of the week, but he earned an elite 90.6 overall grade, the highest graded offensive lineman for Week 2. This also was his best game of his career, per PFF.

Feeney was a major contributor to help pave the way for running backs Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson, but he did an excellent job fending off Lions defensive tackles Damon Harrison and A’Shawn Robinson from getting to quarterback Philip Rivers.

Feeney was one of the biggest question marks on the offensive line last season, but he is quickly establishing himself as the player that many envisioned him to be in his third year.

If Feeney continues to play at this level, the coaching staff is no longer going to consider finding a replacement for him at the left guard position.
