Chargers-Chiefs named one of NFL’s top rivalries for 2019

The Chargers and Chiefs battle it out twice a year being in the same division. The two teams have always managed to be one of the more enticing games on Sundays that football fans all across the nation will watch.

The people over at NFL.com have taken full notice, as well. Adam Rank put together a list of the top rivalries across the league to watch heading into 2019, and Kansas City and Los Angeles were slotted at No. 2. Only the Browns and Steelers ranked higher.

The Chiefs were one of the best stories of 2018, as Patrick Mahomes set the league on fire (and took home MVP honors) with 50 touchdown passes. If I’m being honest with you (not that I wasn’t up to this point), not enough was made of the fact Mahomes racked up 50 TDs in his first season as a starter. The no-look stuff was great, but 50!! Even in this era of ridiculous passing marks, that kind of stands out as an outlier.

However, as great as the Chiefs were last year, the Chargers were right on their heels. In fact, the Bolts had a huge rally in Kansas City to knock them off in the national spotlight of “Thursday Night Football”.

The Bolts entered 2018 having not defeated the Chiefs for eight consecutive games. Kansas City took care of business in their first meeting, 38-28. But Los Angeles ended the streak with their first victory against them since 2014 in a comeback win on primetime television by the score of 29-28.

The two teams finished with 12-4 records last season, but the Chiefs ultimately took the AFC West crown based on division record. The two will likely be neck and neck for the top spot once again when all is said and done.
