Chargers CB Michael Davis tested positive for COVID-19

The Chargers anticipated having all of their starting cornerbacks out on the field for the first time in four weeks against the Texans.

However, that did not come to fruition, as Michael Davis was pulled from pre-game warmups because he wasn’t feeling well, only to find out that he tested positive for COVID-19.

In place of Davis, Davontae Harris got the start on the outside. But after struggling, Harris was pulled, Chris Harris Jr. moved near the boundary, and Essang Bassy, who was claimed off waivers last week, played in the slot.

Without Davis and Derwin James, who was an emergency player after still dealing with a hamstring issue, the defensive backfield had no answer for rookie Davis Mills, who threw for 254 yards and two touchdowns.

If Davis tested positive for COVID-19, there’s the possibility of some Chargers players resorting to the reserve list due to close contact at the very least this upcoming week.

Los Angeles had 13 active players who did not play on Sunday due to COVID-19.
