Chargers’ Anthony Lynn among favorites for next coach to be fired

The Chargers lost their third consecutive game in a heartbreaking fashion and appear to be on a downward spiral.

Los Angeles’ chances of making the playoffs aren’t looking too good, nor does coach Anthony Lynn’s future with the team, per oddsmakers.

After Week 7, SportsLine ran down who will be the next NFL head coach to be fired, and Lynn is the second-favorite to be let go at +200. The Falcons’ Dan Quinn is the favorite at -300.

There’s no indication that the franchise is unhappy with Lynn, but given his team’s three-game losing streak, he could be on the hot seat.

There are other factors worth considering when laying out why L.A. hasn’t had more success, such as the large number of injuries since the beginning of the season. But conservative play-calling has been poor.

While some of it falls on Lynn, coordinators Ken Whisenhunt and Gus Bradley deserve to be called out for their woes.

It’s hard to believe that a head coach who turned a franchise around in 2017 would even be considered as a potential firing so soon, but there’s no denying this has been Lynn’s worst stretch of games with the team.

It’s hard when key players are missing, but many fans are not pleased with the decisions Lynn has made, such as reducing running back Austin Ekeler’s workload or some of his questionable decision-making.

I don’t believe that Lynn will get fired this season, but it’s something worth monitoring, especially if the Chargers don’t start winning.
