Chargers’ Anthony Lynn unsure of LB Uchenna Nwosu’s status

Chargers linebacker Uchenna Nwosu left the preseason matchup against the Saints in the third quarter.

On the scoring play where Saints quarterback Taysom Hill connected with tight end Austin Carr, Nwosu was in the middle of a pass rush when he stopped and reached for his waist area.

Within the next few plays, Nwosu had his midsection wrapped and was seen walking gingerly to the locker room.

Coach Anthony Lynn was asked if he knew what was going on with Nwosu following the game.

“Not sure what’s going on with that yet. But I did see him walk off the field. But he was playing good ball before that,” Lynn said, per Orange County Register’s Gilbert Manzano.

Nwosu has been one of the standouts this summer. The former USC product has primarily lined up on the line of scrimmage as the LEO in place of Melvin Ingram, where he has generated a lot of pressure the past couple weeks.

Nwosu is expected to primarily serve as the team’s OTTO when they go into their base defense this upcoming season, but he has done enough to earn the role of being the third pass rusher behind Ingram and Joey Bosa.

The Chargers have been hampered with injuries to a few of their players, so the last thing they want to find out is Nwosu’s being severe.
