In this mock draft from NJ.com, there were some fireworks. Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey was traded to the Cardinals. The Packers and Eagles had a trade. The Seahawks took a DT that just tore his ACL. The Browns and Falcons swapped spots in the teens. While the Giants and Jets swapped picks so the G-men could move up and select QB Dwayne Haskins.
A lot of people will read that and their initial reaction will be “that’ll never happen.” Yet, every year we see wild trades happen. The Chargers weren’t lucky enough to be included in any of these trades. They stayed put at number 28 and selected an offensive tackle. A very good one, in Jawaan Taylor. Here’s what was said about him:
28. Los Angeles Chargers: OT Jawaan Taylor, Florida
It’s unclear how much longer Philip Rivers plans to play, but as long as he’s still around, the Chargers simply need to improve at the tackle spots and protect their quarterback. Taylor is a prospect on the rise and might not actually last this long, but if he does, he’s worth scooping up.
We watched Taylor completely control top five pick Josh Allen out of Kentucky. That alone was enough to sell us. Him already playing the right side makes the pick make even more sense. The only issue is are you passing up talent that can help at other positions. You’re doing that with essentially every position, though. I would have no issues with Taylor.
