The staff and owners of Chapters Bookstore in Dublin have said they are "humbled" by the support of the public after the iconic shop closed its doors for the final time on Monday.
The bookstore, located in the heart of Dublin City, was established in 1983, with Wicklow Street, Stephen’s Green, and Abbey Street being former locations, until it made its home at Parnell Street in 2006.
Hundreds of people registered their shock and disappointment when it announced that it would close back in October.
In the time since, thousands of people poured through the doors of the shop, including over the weekend.
But on Monday, the shutters came down for the last time, with the store taking to social media to thank the public.
They tweeted: "One final thank you for your support and custom over the past 39 years. It has been great to see so many of you over the past number of months. The whole team is humbled by the response to our closure, and so proud of the legacy that we leave behind."
Dubliners expressed their sadness as they shopped in the shop on Monday afternoon.
One man told Dublin Live: "It's a great place to come and browse around, we'll miss it"
Another Dublin shopper said: "It's awful, it's a real loss for the area. It's such a pity."
