CHICAGO _ What began with 51/3 innings of no-hit ball from White Sox starter Anthony Ranaudo ended with a 103-mph fastball from Cubs closer Aroldis Chapman.
Chapman struck out Avisail Garcia looking Wednesday to finish the Cubs' 8-1 victory against the White Sox at Wrigley Field.
Kris Bryant's solo home run in the sixth broke up Ranaudo's no-hit bit. Javier Baez's two-run home run in the seventh inning and Addison Russell's grand slam an inning later gave the Cubs all the cushion they needed.
Controversial closer Aroldis Chapman made his Cubs debut. His first pitch to Jose Abreu was clocked at 101 mph.
White Sox pitcher Anthony Ranaudo collected his first major league hit, a solo home run to right field off Jason Hammel in the fifth, before he allowed his first hit, Bryant's 26th home run, with one out in the sixth.
Ranaudo retired 10 in a row between walks to Anthony Rizzo in the first and Miguel Montero in the fourth.
Ranuado walked two Cubs in the first but escaped unharmed when Miguel Montero grounded out to right field, where second baseman Tyler Saladino was playing, to end the first.
The loss ended the White Sox's winning streak at four, the last two of which were wins against the Cubs on Monday and Tuesday.
