Police declare all clear after responding to reports of 'armed and dangerous' person at Chapel Hill campus

Police at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are investigating a report of an "armed and dangerous person" near the college campus. Reports said police had surrounded the armory of the military cadet training centre, but they later declared an all clear.

Emergency: The University has activated the sirens. Police report an ARMED AND DANGEROUS PERSON ON OR NEAR CAMPUS.

There is police activity outside the Reserve Officers' Training Corps building on the campus, near the intersection of South and McCauley streets, sirens were blaring and Chapel Hill and students, staff and faculty were being told to stay inside, WRAL reported.

“At least a dozen police cars responding, with guns drawn, at the #UNC ROTC,” one witness reported on Twitter 

It was later reported that police had issued an all clear, though reports said inquiries were continuing.
