Chaotic scenes in Istanbul as Galatasaray and Basaksehir players clash in touchline melee during title-decider

Galatasaray have been crowned Turkish champions after chaotic scenes in their title-deciding clash with Istanbul Basaksehir at the Turk Telecom Arena.

Former West Ham midfielder Sofiane Feghouli and Henry Onyekuru, on loan from Everton, scored in a 2-1 victory for the hosts.

Galatasaray and Basaksehir had sat level on 66 points ahead of kick-off with a derby victory for the former confirming them as champions for the 22nd time.

With so much on the line, tensions were already high before Basaksehir took the lead 17 minutes into the contest through Riad Bajic.

Galatasaray fans bombarded the pitch with projectiles as their city rivals celebrated, sparking a mass touchline brawl involving former Arsenal and Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

After a chaotic first 45, Feghouli struck two minutes into the second-half before Onyekuru headed home with 25 minutes left to play to hand his club the title.

Galatasaray’s superior head-to-head record against Basaksehir ensures a three point advantage with one game of the season remaining is enough to confirm them as champions.
