A police operation took place at Sydney Airport’s T2 domestic terminal this morning after a police firearm was discharged during the arrest of a man.
The incident happened just before 9am on Wednesday, prompting an immediate response from the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

“The AFP can confirm a man has been arrested at Sydney Airport this morning … after a police firearm was discharged inside the terminal,” an AFP spokesperson told PEDESTRIAN.TV.
“An investigation into the incident has been launched and a crime scene has been established. There were no injuries as a result of the incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.”
A video shared with radio station 2GB showed several people, including police, restraining a man on the ground near a café in the terminal. 2GB reported that, according to their source, the arrested man allegedly attempted to grab a weapon from one of the AFP officers during the struggle.
The airport itself confirmed operations were not disrupted for long. “Sydney airport is currently assisting Australian federal police following an incident earlier this morning,” an airport spokesperson told media outlets.
“No injuries occurred as a result of the incident. An arrest has been made and the airport is operating normally.”
A portion of the T2 terminal was temporarily cordoned off as a crime scene while police investigated. The terminal serves domestic flights, including those operated by Jetstar and Virgin Australia.
