Chaotic row erupts on GMB after Nigel Farage compares Black Lives Matter to the Taliban

A furious row erupted on Good Morning Britain over the toppling of slave trader statue Edward Colston.

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage was called out by Professor Kate Williams and host Piers Morgan during a segment on controversial statues, following the toppling of the Edward Colston statue in Bristol, after a tweet he posted on June 7 compared the Black Lives Matter organisation to terrorist group the Taliban.

From there on, the interview broke down with Farage refusing to comment on whether he thought it was right or wrong to topple statues of Saddam Hussein and Adolf Hitler, then claiming the Black Lives Matter organisation was a Marxist group who's "chief aim is to defund and close down police forces".

The comments left lawyer, political and women's rights activist, Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, who also appeared on the panel, outraged.

She told Farage: "You're full of such utter nonsense, Nigel Farage. I understand that you're struggling to be relevant."

"The only thing you're an expert right now is your backside, because word out of your mouth stinks."

Piers called Farage's comments "incendiary" to compare the movement to the Taliban, while Susanna confronted Nigel and said he could not make that comparison.

"Nigel Farage is a racist," added Dr Mos-Shogbamimu.

"You are inciting racism, and this is outrageous," said Professor Williams.

Earlier in the segment, Farage claimed it was "mob rule" and "undemocratic" for statues to be torn down, and defended former slave trader Colston for being a "philanthropist".

Professor Williams then left Farage speechless by saying: "Jimmy Saville and Jeffrey Epstein were philanthropists too, but that did not mean we should have a statue of them?"

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays on ITV at 6am.
