Chaotic finale to Welsh Premiership semi-final sparks epic celebrations

Llandovery secured a place in the Indigo Premiership final with a narrow win against Merthyr that ended in chaotic fashion.

Llandovery were 16-6 up with 17 minutes remaining, but a valiant fightback from visitors Merthyr pushed the home side to their limits in the closing stages.

A rolling maul from Merthyr resulted in a converted Dan Wall try which turned the tables of the game. With the scores locked in at 16-13, it was far from over.

The scores remained that way with the clock in the red. A Merthyr rolling maul from a lineout bore no fruit, so the forwards went for a pick-and-go which was agonisingly knocked on.

The home crowd threw their arms up in absolute euphoria as the ball changed hands, with Llandovery looking to stick the ball into the car park and call it a day there. But, somehow, the kick failed to make touch, much to the dismay of the home support.

However, as wing Teri Gee stepped back inside to cut a line, the referee blew his whistle, saying: "Right, there is no advantage from the knock-on, okay? That's time."

Cue a chorus of booming cheers from players and fans alike as the referee wrapped up proceedings at Banc Yr Eglwys.

The game was shown live on S4C instead of Cardiff v Newport after preparations for Beyonce's concert in the city meant broadcast trucks couldn't get a space at the Arms Park.

Finalists Cardiff and Llandovery finished their regular season in first and second place respectively, separated by just six points. The capital side will have home advantage for the final thanks to their higher ranking in the league table.
