‘Chaos’ in West Derby Village as temporary traffic lights stay on red

Motorists travelling through West Derby Village were left frustrated this morning as a set of temporary traffic lights were stuck on red.

The temporary lights, located on Almond’s Green, West Derby, were set up to allow a steady flow of traffic along the road due to ongoing works.

Instead, drivers were left stranded and waiting for their cue to manoeuvre forward as both sets of traffic lights, from either direction, failed to turn green for a significant period of time.

A video taken by a passer-by shows cars waiting patiently for their turn to go, only for cars in their rear to become impatient and make a dash to get through.

At one point, cars approaching from the Muirhead Avenue entrance drive down the right lane to overtake stationary vehicles which was lucky not to cause a crash.

The faulty lights caused a backlog of traffic right through the village with morning commuters either having to find alternative routes or risk a collision with oncoming traffic by jumping the lights.

The passer-by described the scene as ‘absolute chaos’ with many motorists confused with what they could and couldn’t do.
