'Chaos' as traffic light failure causes huge delays for motorists

Roads across the city have been described as "chaos" by motorists after a traffic light failure led to long queues this evening.

Lights at the junction of Stanley Road and Bankhall Road in Kirkdale stopped working at around 6pm on Friday, August 27.

There are currently huge delays on both Stanley Road and Bankhall Road as cars try to navigate through the junction.

The lights were put in place by Liverpool City Council due to roadworks.

Liverpool City Council were approached for comment.

One motorist described the situation as "chaos".

Gareth Evans said on Twitter: "There is chaos on the junction of Bankhall Street and Stanley Road. Temporary lights are stuck on red. Please get it resolved before somebody gets killed. People are just ignoring them now.

"Just nearly watched some kids get knocked down by cars shooting through a light that’s been on red."

Another witness at the scene said lots of 'angry motorists' are beeping horns and the queues are 'pretty bad'.
