Chaos as thousands of customers are locked out of Santander accounts

Thousands of customers have been unable to access their bank accounts after Santander suffered an outage.

Users have taken to social media to complain they are unable access their accounts via the mobile app or the website.

Down Detector, an online outage tracker, has logged 1,070 reports since 6am on Monday.

More than two thirds (73 per cent) of customers reported issues with Santander’s mobile banking up, with 28 per cent struggling to login to the website.

The bank released a statement on Twitter apologising for the outage.

A spokesperson said: “We’re aware that some customers are experiencing issues accessing mobile and online banking and making card payments. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and working hard to fix the issue as soon as possible.”

Frustrated customers took to social media to complain about the issue.
