Dusseldorf Airport was evacuated this morning as three unauthorised people got through security, disrupting thousands of passengers.

All three terminals were evacuated at 7am local time when the unchecked individuals went through an alarm-protected door into a secure area.

All departing passengers, including those who had already boarded flights, had to leave the terminals and go through a new security check.

After a police search, all three of Dusseldorf’s terminals are open again. Two of the individuals have been found, while police are still searching for the third, according to Reuters.

The incident will affect around 6,500 passengers, the airport said, and travellers should expect delays to flights today.

A number of flights have been cancelled from the airport this morning, including services to Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna.

Dusseldorf Airport is one of Germany’s busiest air hubs. Today, 634 flights are scheduled and around 75,000 passengers are expected to pass through the airport.
