Katy Perry has proven herself to be the ultimate ex-girlfriend after she sent the internet into a tizzy with a video celebrating/mourning the engagement of her former flame, Josh Groban.
In a hilarious move that serves as a reminder that celebrities are mere mortal beings, Perry shared an emotional TikTok reacting to Groban’s recent engagement to Natalie McQueen.
The video, which has garnered more than 10.4 million views on the platform, began with a news article announcing Groban and McQueen’s news before Perry, in a robe and bare-faced, before pouring a drink.
As she sipped the drink and fake cried, her iconic breakup anthem, “The One That Got Away”, blasted in the background.
“Congrats,” the singer wrote alongside an emoji of two glasses clinking.
Shortly after posting, fans and fellow heartbroken lover girls flooded the comments questioning Perry’s antics, with one person even admitting that they thought it was a “fan account”.
“Katy, I think u were supposed to press draft hunny,” one person wrote.
“Katy, this is crazy lmaoo,” another penned.
“Glad to know it doesn’t pass. I thought I was crazy,” wrote a third.
What is the Katy Perry and Josh Groban lore?
What makes the video even funnier is the fact that “The One That Got Away” is about Groban and their relationship.
The two artists were romantically linked back in 2009, and although their relationship as lovers didn’t last, Perry revealed to James Cordan in 2017 that they’ve remained “good friends” and confirmed that “The One That Got Away” was about him.
In 2018, Groban shared his reaction to the song during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, admitting that he “was not expecting that”.
“That was a double-take and a spit of my coffee when I saw that,” Groban said.
“It’s very sweet of her to say that. I’m very flattered by it. But I was very surprised by it too.”

Perry has quite the romantic history. She was previously married to controversial comedian Russel Brand, was engaged to Orlando Bloom and is now with ex Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, with whom she was recently papped with at Coachella.
But alongside her lover girl antics, Perry has been embroiled in controversy after Australia’s Ruby Rose alleged she’d sexually assaulted her at a Melbourne nightclub nearly 20 years ago.
The “Thinking Of You” singer has denied the claims. However, Victoria Police has confirmed it was investigating the allegations.
