Can it really be 10 years ago? To mark Channel Five's 10th birthday, we've bothered the broadcaster and scoured the web to find clips of some of its most, er... memorable shows and moments.
"Welcome, it's six o'clock on Sunday March the 30th, and this is 5..." Remember the Spice Girls and The Power of 5? All very 1997. The clip is of the channel's first minutes on air, with the girls doing their thang - "guaranteed to be the new sensation", indeed - followed by Tim Vine and Julia Bradbury introducing some launch schedule highlights.
And here's a link to a webpage detailing some of those highlights, with more stills. Remember Jack Docherty, Scott Chisholm, and Trish Adudu? And there's that nice Mal Young, talking about Channel Five's new soap, Family Affairs.
Family Affairs opening credits Speaking of Family Affairs, this is the opening credits to now defunct soap. Family Affairs was one of the longest surviving shows from Five's March 1997 launch schedule - bar the news - running until the end of 2005.
The perch that launched a thousand, er... perches. Here's Kirsty Young's now famous news desk perch, much copied by other news broadcasters.
Biffing Johnny Foreigner... Sport, and in particular live football, has been a feature on Five since the launch. But the best sports moment ever on the channel has to be this Boris Johnson rugby tackle from last year's The Legends: England v Germany pro-celebrity match.
"Mu, mu, mu, mi, mi, mi..." ... More Milkshake, the pre-school kid's strand that has been another hardy Five perennial.
Graham Norton hosting Not The Jack Docherty Show Jack Docherty was one of the channel's early stars but then he went on holiday and this came along: Not The Jack Docherty Show, which is what it was called when Graham Norton was guest hosting. Norton won best newcomer at the 1997 British Comedy Awards for guest hosting The Jack Docherty Show - on a night when he was sat at the same table as Docherty, who had been expecting to win the award.
Early Saturday evening on Five was a riot of cheesy campness through the late 90s and early noughties, with Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Incredible Journeys and Night Fever.
Belinda Carlisle on Night Fever You can spot several regulars on the long running celebrity karaoke show in attendance - Cheggers, Craig from Big Brother 1. But where's Barry from EastEnders? And here's Emily Booth - no, i don't remember her either - belting out Hey Big Spender.
Xena: Warrior Princess Here's a Xena clip from musical episode Lyre Lyre, Hearts on Fire.
Hercules: The Incredible Journeys And Xena and Hercules conducting some energetic foreplay from Stranger In A Strange World.
Since then, Five has had the odd other US import - here's a selection:
CSI Clip featuring William Petersen's Gil Grissom with Lady Heather, a recurring dominatrix character played by Melinda Clarke, better known to some viewers as The OC's Julie Cooper.
House Here's Hugh Laurie's House in confrontation with moneybags hospital benefactor Vogler - to the sound of The Who's Baba O'Riley. Here's the same scene in Spanish. And German.
Grey's Anatomy We're being a bit naughty here - this clip of the hotdog eating race hasn't been shown on Five yet, though it has been on Living TV.
Grey's - girls shower scene Ditto this fantasy scene from the end of season two.
Grey's - boys shower scene This fantasy scene never will be shown - it was shot specially for the ABC upfront in New York last summer.
Brian Sewell on the Medici Just to show Five has not been all tacky reality shows and Red Shoe Diaries - or "films, fucking and football" as Dawn Airey memorably said - here's a clip from the channel's extensive and critically-lauded arts, culture and history output of recent years. We couldn't find a clip of Sewell gambolling nekked on a Spanish beach from The Naked Pilgrim, but this rumination on the last of the Medici, from his later Grand Tour series, serves just as well.
Jumping on the reality bandwagon Five got into reality bigtime in the early noughties - with decidedly mixed results. The Mole, which ran for two series, is regarded as the best of a not particularly strong field. Touch the Truck anyone?
Rebecca's piggy pleasuring Then there was The Farm. We couldn't FIND any video of the Rebecca Loos' pig pleasuring incident from the first series of The Farm - well, not without visiting some very dodgy looking sites. So you'll have to make do with this picture. Feel free to post the clip in the comments below if you have it.
And it gets worse...
Keith Chegwin in the buff WARNING: THIS PICTURE IS NOT OFFICE FRIENDLY. From Naked Jungle, a one-off spoof gameshow in which all participants appeared naked, it features Cheggers and other contestants in the all together. Just be thankful we couldn't find a video clip...
