Over 7,000 angry viewers have complained to Ofcom about Channel 5's 'immoral' documentary about Charlotte Crosby.
Even the title of the show - Charlotte Crosby; What Happened to Your Face - sparked disgust from people who saw it listed in their TV guides and then those who tuned in, which include Charlotte's close friend and former Geordie Shore co-star Holly Hagan, were left horrified by its content, which saw doctors pick fault with the 30-year-old's appearance.
The show saw surgeons dissect and criticise Charlotte's face and accuse of her getting cosmetic procedures she's never even had and the Sunderland-born star took to Instagram to post a lengthy statement, which included a section which read: "At a time when the broadcast media world were backing a policy of ‘be kind’, Channel 5 and Crackit) the production company behind the show) decided to commission this one hour special on ‘rubber lip Charlotte’ (their words, not mine).
“Their ‘experts’ dissected my ‘plastic face’ with disgust, discussed my fluctuating weight (with images) and then decided to flash up the worst troll comments from the past five to six years.”
Charlotte added, that after being told of the documentary last year, her agent slammed its "insensitive and immoral" content, saying "They ignored her, despite repeated correspondence, and ran with it regardless.
“We only found out this week when it was in the TV listings that it was still going ahead – unbelievable."
After the backlash against the show, Channel 5 later issued an apology and removed it from its streaming service My5, saying they "take duty of care very seriously," and broadcasting regulator Ofcom has now revealed it's so far received 7,082 complaints from viewers.
Other celebrities have been quick to condemn Channel 5's decision to commission and air the programme, with Scarlett Moffatt commenting on Charlotte's post to write: "This is vile. You are beautiful inside and out Charlotte. This show has encouraged trolling, in a world where you can be anything be kind," and Geordie Shore star Chloe Ferry reacting: "Love you so much you don’t deserve this you are beautiful."
I'm A Celebrity winner and fellow In the Style ambassador Jacqueline Jossa blasted: "They are cancelled!!!!! What a mistake. VILE VILE !!
"Charlotte you are so beautiful inside and out. This is WRONG on so many levels. I’m so angry. How is this even possible? this program is encouraging trolls to keep on. I’m so so shocked."
