Channel 5 Dalgliesh: plot, how many episodes, full cast list, start date and time

Channel 5's new adaptation of the best-selling detective novels by PD James airs tonight.

The show follows Adam Dalgliesh as he solves the mysteries of unusual murder cases in 1970s England.

The three stories adapted are Shroud for a Nightingale, The Black Tower, and A Taste for Death.

In episodes one and two, DCI Adam Dalgliesh investigates the death of a student poisoned during a training demonstration at a nursing school.

Dalgliesh starts on Thursday, November 4 at 9pm on Channel 5 and My5.

Who is in Dalgliesh?

Bertie Carvel from Doctor Foster plays Adam Dalgliesh, while Jeremy Irvine plays his colleague Charles Masterson.

Other cast members include Mirren Mack, Natasha Little, Paul Mallon, and Siobhán Cullen.

How many episodes of Dalgliesh are there?

There are six episodes consisting of three two-part films.

Episodes air on Thursday and Friday every week.

The second part of the first story will be on Friday, November 5 at 9pm.

The second story will air on November 11 and 12 and the third story will be shown on November 18 and 19.
