Channel 4's ultimate popularity contest The Circle is coming back - and you can apply to take part

It was the surprise reality TV hit of last year - and now creators of The Circle are looking for Manchester-based contestants for the second series.

The Channel 4 show, billed as the ultimate popularity contest, follows the ups and downs of a group of contestants who live in the same building, but never meet face to face.

They only communicate via a voice activated messaging app - so, in the words of last year’s finalist Freddie Bentley, ‘anyone could be anyone’.

According to Channel 4, the second series will become 'more mischievous, increasing the gameplay, drama and jeopardy'.

Viewers will also be given greater control and increased interactivity with the game and influence how the contestants play.

This series is set to be bigger and better with more live shows and a huge prize fund of up to £100,000.

In the live final last year, catfish Alex Hobern, took on the persona of Kate throughout the series and went on to win a prize of £75,000.

Although he was almost rumbled on a couple of occasions due to how much he 'sat on the fence' when discussing issues, his win was helped by his close relationship with Dan Mosaku - who was more than a little gutted when he found out that Kate was Alex.

Thankfully the pair made up shortly after and went on to host a podcast together called - you guessed it - On The Fence.

More recently Alex embarked on a two-week mission to get to Amsterdam using only crypto currency.

Alex said: “Taking part in the Circle was an incredible experience that allowed me to reflect on how I use social media, as well as make a bunch of life-long friends.

“If you’re interested in exploring a different persona, or just want to go in as you, and there’s nothing wrong with that - I seriously recommend applying for the next series.”

You must be aged 18 years or over by the 1st July 2019 to apply.
