Channel 4's The Circle moves to Greater Manchester with Emma Willis announced as new host

Considering we spend a hell of a lot of time on our phones and social media, it was a welcomed move from Channel 4 to make a reality show out of it.

The Circle was the surprise TV hit, and social media experiment, of last year and further details have been announced about its comeback - and it's moving closer to home.

The second series of the reality gameshow series will now be hosted by Big Brother great Emma Willis and this year, the show will be located in Greater Manchester.

Better news still, there will be more live episodes which gives viewers the opportunity to influence The Circle.

Commenting on her new role, Emma said: "I'm an avid people watcher and fascinated by the positives and negatives of social media. I got hooked on the first series and thought it was a smart format that highlights how we shouldn't take everything on social media at face value.

"I'm delighted to be part of something that is incredibly relevant and can't wait to join the team and see how mischievous people are prepared to be for £100,000."

If you missed the last series, which was hosted by Radio1's Maya Jama and Alice Levine, it was billed as the ultimate popularity contest as it follows a group of contestants who live separate apartments, in the same building, but never meet face to face, instead communicating via a voice activated messaging app.

Think of it is as a bit like talking to Alexa, except it can literally control all of your social channels.

They then have to rate each other based on conversations they have had and the least popular will ultimately be blocked - ouch.

Once blocked, the departing player will get the opportunity to meet a fellow contestant face to face which is where a lot of drama can begin.

The 2018 series reached a nail biting climax as Alex Hobbern went on to win a impressive prize of £75,000.

But what made him a winner? He spent the entire series catfishing his new friends.

The new series will return later this year and potential contestants are still able to register to apply by visiting The Circle casting website .

You must be aged 18 years or over by the 1st July 2019 to apply.
