Channel 4's NHS Heroes leaves viewers heartbroken as frontline reality exposed

Viewers were left in tears tonight as a special documentary showed the reality NHS staff are facing on the frontline of the coronavirus crisis.

NHS Heroes: Fighting to Save Our Lives aired on Channel 4 tonight and featured a variety of doctors and nurses across the country.

The show showed the heartbreaking reality many staff are being faced with on a daily basis.

The footage also showed the staff leaving their homes and families, with one doctor admitting he had thought about writing his will and a letter to his children for them to open on their 18th birthdays if he isn't there.

Dr Rony who worked in intensive care in London spoke about how he had been finding working in such a stressful environment.

He compared the virus to other emergencies, saying: "It's like having a terrorist attack on your hospital doorstep, twice a day, everyday for weeks and months."

He also said how he worried about getting ill himself and leaving his three-year-old son behind.

Another member of staff, Luke, said how he sat with one gentleman and held his hand telling him about how the world had changed for the better, while in the next cubicle a daughter was saying goodbye to her dad through an iPad.
