Channel 4's new HQ taking shape as glass dome is completed

Channel 4's new national headquarters is taking shape as workers have put the finishing touch on a glass dome on the roof.

The Majestic is being transformed into a seven-storey office block and hundreds of Channel 4 employees are due to move in later this year.

Developers Rushbond are looking to finish the multi-million-pound redevelopment by the end of May 2020 and Channel 4 workers will be occupying 27,000 sq ft, meaning that four floors are still available to lease.

Workers have installed a glass dome on the roof of the building above a spiral staircase at the back of the building. The dome is designed to allow natural light into the building.

Channel 4 is planning to set up a digital creative unit and studio, that will be used to co-host Channel 4 News, inside the Grade II listed building, which first opened as a cinema in 1922.

The iconic building, which has also been used as a bingo hall and nightclub over the years, has been empty for 14 years after it was gutted by a huge fire in 2014.
