Channel 4's Before We Die: What happened in the first series?

Crime thriller Before We Die is returning to Channel 4 for a second series. The series will continue to follow DI Hannah Laing, who is played by Lesley Sharp, she continues to protect her estranged son Christian Radic, who is played by Patrick Gibson.

The first series finished with Hannah being tasked with finding out who is the leak in the police department and giving information to the criminal gang the Mimicas. Speaking about what Hannah will face in the second series, Lesley said: "Someone within the police department is feeding information to the Mimicas, and at the end of series one, she is tasked with finding out who that is."

"But it's getting to a point where it's just going on and on and they're not getting any closer, so the decision is made to sideline it, which means she is back working closely again with her old mate, Billy (Vincent Regan). They are utilising all the facilities he can get his mitts on because he doesn't work within the aegis of the police so they can go slightly more rogue."

Hannah's son, Christian, fled to Costa Rica after he was discovered as a mole in the Mimicas gang. Bianca Mimica, who is the daughter of Dubravka Mimica, the leader of the Mimicas gang and Hannah's arch-rival, has also fled to Costa Rice with Christian after they fell in love in the first series.

Issy Knopfler, who is playing Bianca, spoke about Bianca's and Christian's escape. She said: "We pick up exactly three months after season one, and Christian (Patrick Gibson) and Bianca have fled to Costa Rica where they’re living this incredibly bohemian, wonderful beach life – except there's this constant fear that they're going to be found or trapped or conned."
