Channel 4's A Place in the Sun buyers have offer refused after ripping into villa

A Place in the Sun host Laura Hamilton was left mortified after admitting a property she'd shown two potential buyers had been "disastrous".

Tuesday's instalment of the Channel 4 show saw the presenter joined by Ginny and Tony on the Mani Peninsula in Greece. The pair sought out a home to retire in, and had a budget of £230,000.

Tony said he wanted somewhere with a pool, a private parking space for his car and somewhere that was "quite English". Laura's first property did not go down well at all.

The house had three bedrooms and was 15 minutes from the beach, but as it didn't have a pool it was immediately a non-starter. Tony said: "I don’t see myself living here. It doesn't feel like a home. It just feels a bit soulless to me".

Tony also hated the traditional exposed beams and stonework. As they left the property, Laura admitted to viewers that her first viewing with the couple had been "disastrous".

Tony and Ginny also found fault with the next property which they said was too dark. Thankfully, the couple did like property number four, valued at £265,765 at the time of filming, enough to make an offer.

It was a a half-finished three bedroom apartment, in need of some electrical work, but had a large terrace with sea views and a swimming pool. Unfortunately, their offer of 10% below the asking price was not accepted and so they went back to the UK.

It's not the first time the popular property show has caused controversy. Last month, Carol and daughter-in-law Donna were searching for a home in Lanzarote. But things were off to a bad start as Carol said the first property "looked like a garage".

After viewing some five properties, the two still couldn't agree on a property to make an offer on. Jasmine said: "You're not going to find anything better than those, really and truly. We have left no stone unturned."

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4 and All 4
