Channel 4 Murder Island returned for second episode but unhappy viewers said same thing

Reality competition Murder Island returned for its second episode last night, but many viewers deemed it "boring" and criticised the "bad" acting.

The premise of the series involves ordinary people working in teams of two as detectives to try and solve the murder of a young woman in an effort to win a £50,000 prize.

The mystery was written by famed Scottish crime writer Ian Rankin, and alongside the real-life sections it features flashback scenes in which actors portray the events leading up to the woman's death.

The first episode, which premiered October 5, was met with a mixed response - with some viewers finding the ambitious mix of factual, drama and reality competition TV "clunky".

Tuesday night's second episode was met with a similarly underwhelming response, with some watchers unimpressed by the quality of contestants.

In a scathing review of the show, one viewer tweeted: "Ok, so I’m no stranger to trash TV… but Omg @Channel4, I couldn’t cope with #MurderIsland. Had to turn off after just 5 mins #unbearable"

"These lot couldn’t solve a word search," quipped another.

"These contestants are even more useless than people on the apprentice," said a third.

Another point of contention amongst people watching the show was whether it was interesting enough - especially considering its premise.

"How is something called #murderisland so bloody boring," one viewer questioned.

A second wrote: "The first episode was decent but tonights was so boring".

"I think I might confess to this murder just to get it over with," commented a third along with three sleeping face emojis.

Viewers also had plenty to say about the flashback parts of the episode, namely the quality of the acting.

"Obsessed with how bad the acting is on this," joked one.

Another added: "The acting on #MurderIsland makes River City look Oscar worthy".

However, not all viewers were down on the second episode, with one writing: "So the problem with watching #MurderIsland the day after is you miss all the live chat and man what a great episode that was so much information uncovered by the investigators I think one team showing themselves head and shoulders above the rest in that episode great stuff".

"Been watching #MurderIsland on Channel 4... Its so interesting! I'm sat with my own notes trying to work it out before if not the same time as the amateur detectives," tweeted a second.
