Channel 4 Leeds job to work on Hollyoaks storylines and choose cast

Channel 4 are on the lookout for someone to work from its Leeds city centre HQ and come up with the storylines of primetime drama Hollyoaks.

The exciting role will also require signing off on scripts and deciding the cast of the popular Channel 4 show.

By the end of the year, the first of around 200 Channel 4 jobs will begin to move to the city as part of the biggest shake-up in the broadcaster's 36-year history.

One of the roles currently available is the post as commissioning editor for the channel's drama productions, with a particular focus on Hollyoaks.

Among the core responsibilities is looking ahead at long-term story ideas and coming up with ways to promote the programme.

The successful applicant will also be responsible for a number of other pre-watershed dramas on Channel 4.

The job advert lists a number of skills essential for the role, including:

  • Proven production experience as a seasoned script editor or a producer
  • Strong editorial judgment
  • Proven sound editorial judgement and a demonstrable understanding of recent broadcasting output, audience and schedule
  • The need to be autonomous and proactively manage communications between Leeds and London to ensure continued effectiveness and efficiency
  • Working simultaneously with the Managing Director of the Nations & Regions to deliver on the growth of the regional presence and perception of Channel 4

The job offers a competitive salary and the person who takes it on will be expected to work 37 hours a week, with some travel to Liverpool likely.
