Channel 4 Gogglebox viewers in stitches as Sophie makes claim about Martin Lewis

Gogglebox fans were left in hysterics during the latest episode of the Channel 4 programme on Friday (September 8). The BAFTA-award winning TV show returned to screens on September 9 for its 20th series which airs every Friday night.

The hit reality show sees families up and down the UK react to the latest telly, from reality show to breaking news, and this week the Goggleboxers gave their views on Bad Sisters, The Kardashians and BBC News.

Gogglebox star Sophie Sandiford and her brother Sandiford were amongst those reacting to the news of the latest energy price crisis. The pair were shown trying to wrap their head around soaring energy costs as viewers laughed along with them.

Viewers were in stitches as Sophie said: "That's the new showing off, isn't it? 'Come round to mine, I'll put the heating on," reports the Echo.

Pete replied: "It's not flash cars any more, it's 'he's doing alright for himself, he's got the heating on".

Sophie then joked if people have their boilers on it now means they're "flash b******s". She then criticised the new Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng.

It was then when the Gogglebox star called for Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis to become the chancellor instead. Her comments came after a Channel 4 poll found the financial guru to be the celebrity that people would most want to be the next Prime Minister.

Gogglebox fans were clearly in agreement with Sophie's claim as they took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

@Elizabe29708315 tweeted: "Sophie is bang on. @MartinSLewis SHOULD be Chancellor #GoggleBox."

@Natasha_Reid02 said: "#gogglebox Totally agree Sophie; Martin Lewis would be great."

@DiamondGirl said: "Couldn't agree more, Martin for Chancellor or PM."

@harmerp added: "Sophie on top form tonight. Very funny. @PeteandSophie #Gogglebox."

Sadly for anyone hoping this becomes a reality, Martin Lewis has already ruled out a career in politics.

Last week, he said: "While a very kind thought. As I've said before, my mental health isn't robust enough for partisan politics. Nor would I do it to my family. In fact, I'd rather have my nipples wired to electrodes (and not in a good way)."
