Channel 4 Gogglebox: Tributes to British TV dog icon after the Malones' beloved pet dies

She may well have been the most famous Rotty dog in the country, but Lucy, the dog who often stole the show whenever Gogglebox went into the front room of the Malone family in Manchester has now passed away.

The Malones have shared the heartbreaking news that one of their beloved dogs has died - just a few months after another of their famous pooches passed on. The family's pets have made regular appearances on screen as Tom Snr, Julie and their children appeared from their home on the Channel 4 hit.

The Malone's have had four Rottweiller dogs throughout their time on Gogglebox, making their debut on the programme in 2014. But on Wednesday (March 9) Julie and Tom Snr announced that one of their pooches, Lucy, had died just seven months after the loss of another of their pet dogs, Izzey.

The announcement was made on their official Instagram - the couple shared a photo of Tom Snr planting a kiss on Lucy's head as she laid with her eyes closed on a blue mat. They wrote to their thousands of followers: "Today we said goodbye to our beloved Lucy, she fought right to the end to stay with us. Now reunited with her sister Izzey.

"There are no words to describe how much you meant to us .Rest In Peace Sweetheart, you will always be in our hearts."

Tom Jnr, who starred on the show himself before quitting fo other opportunities last year, was among the first to comment, writing: "Such a good girl." The family's Gogglebox co-stars were also soon showing their support. Izzi Warner commented: "Rest in peace sweet girl. Thinking of you all."

"Sorry to hear this! Sending hugs," Stephen Webb wrote. Dave and Shirley Griffiths added: "Sorry to hear that Tom love dave and shirley."

Fans were also quickly flooding the post with messages. "So so sorry to read your devastating news. RIP Lucy," @ happyjo40 said.

@michelebrown63 commented: "Omg, I’m so incredibly sorry for your tremendous loss, my deepest condolences to the whole family, it’s clearly evident how much you love your beautiful dogs."

Charity Blue Cross also shared a comment, writing: "Everyone at Blue Cross is sending their love to you and the family during this difficult time. We've enjoyed watching Lucy and the dogs for so long. We're thinking of you all and, please know that our Bereavement team are always on hand if you ever need someone to talk to. RIP Lucy."

And Yappy_.com wrote: "Lucy was a British tv icon… sending you woofs and barks at this difficult time."

It comes after the family revealed in August that Izzey had passed away with a tribute on Instagram.

Alongside a photo of dad Tom with their pooch gripping a ball that was emblazoned with comedy teeth, they wrote: "Our beautiful girl Izzey ,RIP xx.

"We are going to miss you and your gentle ways so very much. Thank you for looking after the Grandkids."
