Channel 4 confirms Great British Bake Off's future as semifinal looms for the amateur bakers

The future of Great British Bake Off has been confirmed.

The popular baking show is in its 12th season after starting on BBC back in 2010, before moving to Channel 4, and the semi final will see four amature bakers tackle patisserie week.

As many of us will miss having Bake Off on our tele's every Tuesday, it was announced that we can expect more baking challenges in the future.

Channel 4 and Love Productions have jointly made a decision on The Great British Bake Off's future.

Together they have confirmed that GBBO's license will be extended for another three year.

Which is fantastic news for fans who can enjoy the show until 2024 at least.

As the Echo reports, the agreement also includes Bake Off: An Extra Slice, Junior Bake Off, Bake Off: The Professionals, The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer and The Great Pottery Throw Down.

Despite it changing broadcasters in 2017, Great British Bake Off is consistently one of the biggest shows for the channel with last year’s final watched by 11.5 million people.

The current series has almost 9 million viewers per episode, meaning it is the second most watched unscripted show of the year.

Richard McKerrow, Chief Executive Love Productions, said: “We are delighted to have extended Bake Off ’s stay on Channel 4 for another three years.

"Love Productions’ long-term commitment with Channel 4 illustrates a deep, warm, mutual respect and partnership which enables us to bring Bake Off to the widest audience possible.”

Ian Katz, Chief Content Officer at Channel 4, said: “We are thrilled that Channel 4 will continue to serve up Bake Off’s unique combination of warmth, humour and soggy bottoms for years to come.

"Bake Off is all about optimism, celebrating eccentricity and bringing the nation together – precisely what a publicly owned Channel 4 is here to do.”

Great British Bake Off airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4
