Channel 4 Bake Off fans threaten to 'riot' over competition winner

Bake Off fans threatened to "riot" over the potential winner of the popular baking competition this evening.

Comedic presenters Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas hosted the grand final of this year's contest, as the finalists battled it out to be crowned champion.

The last three bakers - Dave, Laura and Peter - endured three tests of a range of baking skills. Tension in the tent kicked off with the Signature round which required the perfect execution of combining set custard and puff pastry.

Laura's custard did not set which lead to her putting her head in the fridge to sob as privately as possible. She later said she was "embarrassed".

The Technical challenge called on the bakers to make Walnut Whirls, complete with marshmallow and a chocolate ganache.

The final round, the Showstopper, called for the bakers to create an elaborate dessert tower before judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood chose this year's winner.

The competition looked close but Bake Off fans were adamant about who they wanted to win - and the baker they didn't want to see named champion.

Channel 4 viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

In the end, though, the riot was called off as Peter was crowned winner.
