Edwin had spent six weeks having radiotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer of the toungue.

But doctors soon found lumps in his chin, and informed Edwin they could no longer operate.

Last year, he was rushed to St George's Hospital following a bleeding from a tumour.

He arrived to the resus area for assessment and treatment from the clinical team.

But his partner Jeanette was left in tears after doctors suggested that Edwin may not have a lot of time left.

She said: "I could not believe a strong man like him could go anywhere.

"He's so brave isn't he? God I can't believe this has happened.

"Ed used to say I wish we had longer together, but I'm lucky to have him. Before Ed my husband was ill with cancer and died 11 years ago and that was so hard.

"When I realised it was going to happen again I did think it was unfair, I thought 'why does it have to happen again?'"

The end card revealed that Edwin had sadly passed away after seven days in hospital, following a number of further bleeds.

Viewers were left extremely upset by the unfortunate news, with many taking to Twitter to express their condolences.

One wrote: "Jesus, you have to feel for the poor fella whose tongue cancer had spread. Powerful episode tonight."

Another said: "In absolute tears so sad."

And a third wrote: "I am absolutely sobbing at #24hrsae god life can be so cruel."
