Changes to Translink Metro services across Belfast to begin next month

Translink have announced they are enhancing their Metro bus services across the city from next month.

The bus company say customers in North and East Belfast can expect to see a series of improvements including new routes, the introduction of eco-vehicles and improved passenger information.

Translink say the improvements are aimed at attracting even more people to make the bus their first choice for travel.

Around 1000 extra seats per day will be available to customers in North Belfast with the addition of 20 new eco-vehicles on the Metro 1 (Antrim Road) and Metro 2 ( Shore Road ).

A new 12c service will also be introduced, serving the Thornbury and Wolfhill areas of Ligoniel via the Cliftonville and Oldpark Roads.

Meanwhile, the 11a service will serve Shankill Road , Glenbank Corner and Upper Crumlin Road to Ballysillan Park, with an inward journey to the city centre via Ballysillan Road, Bilston Road and Glenbank Corner.

Translink say East Belfast passengers will benefit from a new 3b service travelling directly to Knocknagoney via the Albertbridge Road and Holywood Road, with 3a services continuing to serve Newtownards Road, Connsbrook Avenue and Inverary.

Metro 27, 28 and 28a services will be renumbered to Metro 3 services and will serve Station Road and Connsbrook Avenue.

Route numbering will also be simplified with the new scheme and over 2,000 simplified bus stop flags will be introduced, alongside enhanced use of colour and presentation at around 500 bus shelters.

The bus route enhancements will come into force on September 2.

Another phase of improvements is planned for 2020/1 onwards, subject to funding.
