Changes to Scotland's international travel rules come into effect from today

Fully vaccinated Scots will be able to return from amber list countries without the need to quarantine from today.

The new international travel rules mean that Scots who have received both jags on the NHS will not need to spend 10 days in self-isolation when arriving home from the likes of Spain, Italy, Greece and Cyprus.

Both vaccinations will have to have been administered 14 days before travellers arrive back in Scotland.

Holidaymakers will still need to take a Covid test before travelling back to Scotland and on the second day of their arrival back into the country.

Unvaccinated travellers, or those who have received just one dose of vaccine, will have to isolate for 10 days when returning to Scotland. They must also take two PCR tests during their time in quarantine.

The changes to the amber list rules have been in effect from 4am this morning.

But the Scottish Government said yesterday that fully vaccinated travellers arriving back from amber-listed France will still need to quarantine.

Officials made the decision due to concerns over the Beta variant, which may be able to evade protection from the vaccine.

The Balearic Islands, which includes Majorca and Ibiza, has been moved from the green list to the amber list.

Bulgaria, Croatia, Hong Kong and Taiwan have been moved from amber to the green list.

All travellers will still need to take a Covid test before travel and within two days of their arrival back in Scotland from a green list country.

Cuba, Indonesia, Myanmar (Burma) and Sierra Leone have now been placed on the red list.

Announcing the changes last week, Minister for Environment, Biodiversity and Land Reform Mairi McAllan said: “From the outset we have said caution is required regarding international travel and people should think very carefully about travelling abroad as situations can suddenly change.

"When we added the Balearic Islands to the green list we said we would be closely monitoring the data, and the increase in cases we have seen means we now have to take it off the green list."
