The country is now facing its third national lockdown after growing concerns over the increasing number of coronavirus cases across England.
The Liverpool City Region alone saw infection rates double in most parts of the city region - even trebling in one borough - in the last week of December.
Last night, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that new national lockdown restrictions would come into force, with all schools and colleges closing from today, as the nation was told to 'stay at home'.
Last week, the hospitality industry was given just several hours notice when the government announced that Liverpool would be placed into Tier 3 from 00.01am on New Year's Eve.
This led to many city restaurants and bars being outraged by the government for 'leaving such a big decision so late'.
So what will happen now with restaurants, pubs and bars now that Liverpool is under a national lockdown?
Some rules around getting a takeaway and buying alcohol have now changed.
All hospitality venues must close such as cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars and social clubs.
However, they can provide food and non-alcoholic drinks for takeaway up until 11pm for click-and-collect and drive-through.
Alcoholic drinks can only be provided if the takeaway is delivered .
