Changes to hospital parking charges in Nottingham amid Covid-19 pandemic

Staff and visitors can now park for free at Nottingham's hospitals.

The barriers are up at both the Queen's Medical  Centre and City Hospital and fees are being temporarily waivered during the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier this week a nurse's photo of her parking ticket went viral on Facebook. The nurse, who works at the City Hospital, found the ticket on her car after finishing her shift at midnight.

Her post, which said: "Thanks NHS City Hospital Nottingham - you should feel ashamed!" was shared more than 5,700 times and her followers offered to pay the fine.

A spokesman for Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUH,) which runs both sites, said the ticket had been cleared and was issued in "mistake" during the changeover.

Some barriers were raised at the end of last week - and on Tuesday, March 24, all car parks were made free.

Since Sunday visitors have not been allowed at either hospital to protect patients and staff unless they have been pre-arranged with the nurse in charge.

Special allowances will be made for birthing partners, parents of patients under the age of 18, relatives collecting patients on discharge and those at the end of life.
