Changes to emergency school hubs in South Lanarkshire start next week

Schooling arrangements for children of key workers are set to change from next week in South Lanarkshire.

The local authority said as they begin to plan for the phased return of staff and children back to school, they are working to ensure their buildings are ready for a return in August.

To enable the staff to come into school this month to help with these preparations, they say they will need to make a change to the current model of their emergency childcare hubs.

From Monday, June 8, children who currently have a place at the  School Hubs will attend their own base school instead. These arrangements will run from Monday, June 8 until Friday, June 26.

From Monday, June 29, the School Hubs arrangement will come back into place and will run throughout the summer.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Education Resources Committee, Councillor Katy Loudon, said: “I am delighted at the fantastic job our school hubs have been doing throughout the coronavirus crisis.

“They have been providing a safe, welcoming environment and enabled us to support the key workers who are all doing such a fantastic job.

“We will be in touch to let parents of children attending the hubs know of the new arrangements."

Teachers and other school staff whose children attend an SLC school and who meet the Key Worker criteria (i.e. both parents keyworkers) will be able to apply for childcare in one of our hubs through the central admissions process.
