Belfast City Council have announced a number of changes to waste and recycling collections which will come into force at the end of the month.
The new pilot recycling scheme which involves new bins being distributed and changes to collections will affect 4800 homes in the north of the city.
Council staff will be calling at the homes included in the new scheme from this week to inform them of the changes which will come into effect in the Castle electoral area on September 30.
If you're part of the new scheme you'll receive some new bins, including:
- a wheelie box, like this one, with space for paper, plastics, glass and more
- a smaller black bin (if you don't already have one)
- a green caddy for your food waste
You'll no longer use your blue bin, or your bigger black bin, but can keep using your brown bin for garden waste.
Your recycling collection day will change under the new arrangements, but your black and brown collection days will be unaffected.
The council say recyclable materials will now be sorted directly into different parts of their bin lorries, improving the city's recycling rates and creating more local jobs.
